Portland, Maine

Hey sweet thangs! I am beyond tired, sitting in the Tucson airport waiting for a friend to arrive. Today has ben A DAY. I am here in Tucson to see my friends Kurt and Claire and meet their brand new baby! It is Claire’s birthday this weekend. You may remember this lovely couple from my blogpost about their wedding last year. You can see it HERE. I woke up at 3:30 to try and get on the first flight out to Chicago, to then travel to Tucson but after pushing back twice from the gate for various unfortunate events, the captain announced that the Chicago airport was closed and we eventually deplaned. I had to rethink how I would get here and apparently did a damn fine job! The only problem is that they forced me to check my back at the gate and then wouldn’t give it back to me so my bag is currently in Chicago. I’m so glad I grabbed my camera at the last second! I would be much more fretful if it was floating around without me haha. My friend should be landing soon and then we are driving the hour and a half into the desert to Kurt & Claire’s place. I am going to do my best not to be a total zombie. 

These photos are from this past week on a lovely day in Portland, Maine. What a cute place! And with such good food and vintage shopping! I was in heaven haha. I got a couple things … one of which is in my lost luggage … so hopefully I’ll get it soon so I can share. Have a wonderful rest of your day!

Oi amores! Estou muito cansado, sentado no aeroporto de Tucson esperando um amigo chegar. Hoje foi um dia LOCO. Eu estou aqui em Tucson para ver meus amigos Kurt e Claire e conhecer seu novo bebê! É o aniversário de Claire neste fim de semana. Você pode se lembrar deste lindo casal do meu blog sobre o casamento deles no ano passado. Você pode vê-lo AQUI. Eu acordei às 3:30 para tentar pegar o primeiro voo para Chicago, para depois viajar para Tucson, mas depois de empurrar duas vezes o portão para vários eventos infelizes, o capitão anunciou que o aeroporto de Chicago estava fechado e nós finalmente desembarcamos. . Eu tive que repensar como eu iria chegar aqui e, aparentemente, fiz um ótimo trabalho! O único problema é que eles me forçaram a checar minhas costas no portão e depois não deviam devolvê-lo para que minha bolsa estivesse em Chicago. Estou tão feliz por ter pegado minha câmera no último segundo! Eu ficaria muito mais irritado se estivesse flutuando sem mim haha. Meu amigo deve aterrissar logo e então nós estamos dirigindo a hora e meia no deserto para a casa de Kurt & Claire. Eu vou fazer o meu melhor para não ser um zumbi total.

Albany, NY

Hi guys! I just got back from a long week of travel with long layovers in Albany, NY and Portland, Maine. Albany had such beautiful architecture and a very cute downtown. Vera and I went out for drinks when we arrived at night and met some very funny Scottish and English guys who insisted on teaching us how to say insults from the UK. In the morning I took a long walk by myself and took some photos and then met up with Vera for brunch.

Oi pessoal! Acabei de voltar de uma longa semana de viagem com longas escalas em Albany, NY e Portland, Maine. Albany tinha uma arquitetura tão bonita e um centro muito fofo. Vera e eu saímos para beber quando chegamos à noite e conhecemos alguns rapazes escoceses e ingleses muito engraçados que insistiam em nos ensinar como dizer insultos do Reino Unido. De manhã, fiz uma longa caminhada sozinha, tirei algumas fotos e depois me encontrei com Vera para brunch.

I made it back to Jersey. Esther and I ended up having flights that got in at the exact same time so I got a ride home with her. We are about to get in our pajamas and watch Sex and the City. Tomorrow we are going to take the train into New York for some sunny day exploring … finally! Have a good night!

Washington D.C.

Hi! I am about to board my plane back to Jersey. I have had so much fun … and visited three states this week! I went to the Lincoln Memorial with Najah and Victoria on Sunday after a fun night out in the city. We ended the day at a bim bim bop restaurant haha. Twice in the last two weeks! The girls headed home to Atlanta the following day and I headed to Maryland to stay with my aunt and uncle. My aunt brought me to three workout classes in the last two days, but thank god! I haven’t been able to work out as much I normally do because I have literally been all over the place. It felt good!

Oi! Estou prestes a embarcar no meu avião de volta para Jersey. Eu me diverti muito ... e visitei três estados esta semana! Eu fui ao Lincoln Memorial com Najah e Victoria no domingo depois de uma noite divertida na cidade. Nós terminamos o dia em um restaurante de bim bim bop haha. Duas vezes nas últimas duas semanas! As meninas voltaram para Atlanta no dia seguinte e eu fui para Maryland para ficar com minha tia e meu tio. Minha tia me levou a três aulas de ginástica nos últimos dois dias, mas graças a Deus! Eu não tenho conseguido me exercitar normalmente, porque literalmente estive em todo o lugar. Estava bem!

Happy Monday y’all! I am currently in Maryland at my aunt’s condo. Najah and I flew to come see Victoria this weekend in D.C. and my aunt lives just a metro ride away so I get to see/stay with her as well! These photos were taken in Santa Barbara, on an early morning mission last week. I love me some palm trees and ocean … I hope you all have a great start to your week. My aunt should be home any minute and I’m hoping to go get some lunch and explore a bit.

Red Rocks

Hey there honey bees! This was such a fun day! We were staying in downtown Denver and called up our friend Jessica who lives about an hour away. She drove down and had breakfast with us and then we made a spontaneous decision to drive the thirty minutes outside the city to visit the Red Rocks Amphitheater. It was so nice to get outside! They happened to be doing a soundcheck for a Prince tribute that was going to happen that night and we were all wishing we could stay. I’ve added going to see a concert there to my bucket list. Jessica said the acoustics there are unmatched!

Ei, abelhas! Este foi um dia tão divertido! Nós estávamos no centro de Denver e ligamos para a nossa amiga Jessica, que mora a cerca de uma hora de distância. Ela dirigiu e tomou café da manhã conosco e tomamos uma decisão espontânea de dirigir os trinta minutos para fora da cidade para visitar o Anfiteatro Red Rocks. Foi tão bom sair lá fora! Eles estavam fazendo uma passagem de som para um tributo ao Prince que iria acontecer naquela noite e todos nós estávamos desejando que pudéssemos ficar. Eu adicionei indo ver um concerto lá na minha lista de desejos. Jessica disse que a acústica é inigualável!

75 Degrees in Cincinatti

Good morning! Yesterday we were in Cincinatti but I am currently posted up in bed in Downtown Denver. I just showered and got ready for brunch! Last night Nae, Esther and I got caught in a rain storm … hopefully my boots are dry by now. We had a lovely little dinner. I got bim bim bop and a glass of rosé and then came back to the hotel, got in bed, and caught up on this week’s episode of Game of Thrones. I hope y’all are having a lovely start to the week!

Bom Dia! Ontem estaremos em Cincinatti, mas agora estou na cama no centro de Denver. Eu tomei banho e me preparei para o brunch! Ontem à noite, Nae, Esther e eu fomos apanhados em uma tempestade de chuva ... espero que minhas botas estejam secas agora. Nós tivemos um pequeno jantar adorável. Eu peguei bim bim bop e um copo de rosé e depois voltei para o hotel, fui para a cama e assisti ao episódio de Game of Thrones desta semana. Espero que vocês estejam tendo um ótimo início de semana!

Table Mountain

Hello sweet friends! Tonight is my last night in Chico. It has been oh so quick of a visit, but utterly perfect. One of my high school buddies, Mr. Thomas Walker, was in town for just one more day when I arrived and we filled our day with multiple creek dips, scarfing burritos, catching up, a hike, and topped it off with pesto pizza and arroz con leche popsicles. It was grand. The following day I headed up to the notoriously gorgeous Spring attraction, Table Mountain, with my brother and his fiancé Abbie. These photos were taken there. The spring rains pool and feed fields upon fields of wild flowers on this flat little mountain just above Chico. Timing your Table Mountain visit is always touchy because if you go too early it’s all mud, and if you go too late the heat dries up a good portion of the flowers. We avoided most mud so it was a good day. I spent today running errands but managed to get my booty to dance class. My nails are fresh and my laundry is hanging … now I just have to pack. But first, sleep.

Olá queridos! Esta noite é minha última noite em Chico. Foi tão rápido de uma visita, mas absolutamente perfeita. Um dos meus amigos do colégio, o Sr. Thomas Walker, estava na cidade por apenas mais um dia quando eu cheguei e enchemos nosso dia com vários banhos de riacho, comendo burritos, alcançando uma caminhada, e cobrindo com pizza de pesto e picolés de arroz com leite. Foi grandioso. No dia seguinte, fui até a notoriamente linda atração da primavera Table Mountain (Montanha da Mesa) com meu irmão e seu noivo Abbie. Essas fotos foram tiradas lá. A primavera chove piscina e campos de alimentação em campos de flores silvestres nesta pequena montanha plana acima de Chico. O tempo de sua visita à Table Mountain é sempre delicado porque, se você for muito cedo, é tudo lama, e se você for até tarde o calor seca uma boa parte das flores. Nós evitamos a maior parte da lama, então foi um bom dia. Eu passei hoje correndo recados, mas consegui meu botim para a aula de dança. Minhas unhas estão frescas e minha roupa está pendurada ... agora eu só tenho que embalar. Mas primeiro vou dormir.

Travel Mood Board

Hey babes. I know I warned you that I wouldn’t have a whole lot of time to blog in the next couple months, but I still feel a bit guilty. Just know that my blog will be full-to-bursting with content as soon as May hits. Bear with me until then por favor! My friend Esther and I have made a list of all the places we want to travel to this year and we’ve been adding to it every day. Fantasizing about adventures to come keeps me happy and motivated. A visual adds even more excitement to the daydreams I have about seeing new things. I look forward to the challenges of capturing new places and doing them justice. I imagine falling in love with new places just like I fell in love with Rio. And I don’t just feel excited for me; I feel excited to be able to share it all with you. I hope you’re all doing well and I’ll update you a bit more when I can.

Last Day Home

Hi sweet thangs! Tomorrow will be my last day in Chico for a bit. I can’t believe how fast this trip has gone but part of me feels like it has been the perfect amount of time. It occurred to me today that I still haven’t had Hula’s, an amazing Hawaiian grill in town, so I may have to squeeze that in tomorrow haha. Also, I get to take one last dance class here tomorrow night with yet another guest teacher, this time from Mali. Dancing is the perfect way to be sent off! Just a heads up that I may not have much time to blog in the next couple months, but I will do my very best to give you little updates. Exciting things ahead! These photos were taken last week on a lovely girls’ day with Julia. We had brunch, went shopping, and stumbled on a carnival that hadn’t opened yet! Today has been v chill. I just got back from getting my nails done and now I’m going to start packing. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Oi coisas doces! Amanhã será meu último dia em Chico um pouco. Eu não posso acreditar o quão rápido esta viagem foi, mas parte de mim parece que tem sido a quantidade perfeita de tempo. Ocorreu-me hoje que eu ainda não tinha Hula's, uma grade havaiana incrível na cidade, então eu posso ter que espremer isso amanhã haha. Além disso, eu vou ter uma última aula de dança aqui amanhã à noite com outro professor convidado, desta vez do Mali. Dançar é a maneira perfeita de ser expulso! Apenas um aviso que eu posso não ter muito tempo para blogar nos próximos meses, mas eu farei o meu melhor para lhe dar pequenas atualizações. Coisas emocionantes pela frente! Sweater Weather

Last night we had a guest teacher who taught Afro-Haitian/Cuban dance. It’s always so nice to dance in different styles - a welcomed challenge. My back is so sore! I’ve spent the majority of the day studying but I slept in (for the first time since Rio!) and went on a nice park walk with my sissy for a little break mid-day. I’m currently at a coffee shop downtown and will head home soon. Does anyone else have so much trouble studying at home? I’ve always had to get out of the house if I want to maintain concentration. 

Ontem à noite tivemos um professor convidado que ensinou dança afro-haitiana / cubana. É sempre bom dançar em estilos diferentes - um desafio bem-vindo. Minhas costas estão tão doloridas! Eu passei a maior parte do dia estudando, mas eu dormi (pela primeira vez desde o Rio!) E fui em um belo parque andar com minha maricas para um pequeno intervalo no meio do dia. Atualmente, estou em um café no centro da cidade e voltarei para casa em breve. Alguém mais tem dificuldade em estudar em casa? Eu sempre tive que sair de casa se quisesse manter a concentração.

Library Book

Happy Tuesday beauties! Lucky little me has a mamma who is a trained massage therapist and she offered to give me a massage last night. So spoiled! She told me I should to go to yoga today to help with a kink she felt in my back, so like the obedient daughter that I am ;) I went. It’s supposed to rain until the weekend so I’ll be staying cozy in coffee shops, at the gym, or bundled up with a book at home the next few days. I have been wanting to go on a long hike by myself so that will be on my to-do list this weekend. I’ll bring a camera to capture some of this amazing nature in Chico. I hope you all are staying warm, or cool, depending on which side of the equator you’re on!

Feliz terça-feira belezas! Sorte pouco eu tenho uma mamma que é um terapeuta de massagem treinado e ela se ofereceu para me dar uma massagem ontem à noite. Tão mimada! Ela me disse que eu deveria ir a yoga hoje para ajudar com uma torção que ela sentia nas minhas costas, assim como a filha obediente que eu sou;) eu fui. É suposto chover até o fim de semana, então eu vou ficar aconchegada em cafés, na academia ou com um livro em casa nos próximos dias. Eu tenho vontade de fazer uma longa caminhada sozinha, então isso estará na minha lista de tarefas neste fim de semana. Vou trazer uma câmera para capturar um pouco dessa natureza incrível em Chico. Espero que todos vocês estejam aquecidos ou relaxados, dependendo de qual lado do equador você está!

Sleepy Sunday

This will be a quick hello because I’m oh so tired. I am about to turn off this little lamp next to me and start dreaming … hopefully. I have been having trouble sleeping the past few days because I have some exciting things ahead and my brain loves to imagine. Hopefully I’ve tired myself out fully today so it won’t be a struggle tonight. I hope you had a relaxing and fun weekend. 

Este será um rápido "olá" porque estou tão cansado. Estou prestes a desligar esta pequena lâmpada ao meu lado e começar a sonhar ... esperançosamente. Eu tenho tido problemas para dormir nos últimos dias porque tenho algumas coisas interessantes pela frente e meu cérebro adora imaginar. Espero que eu tenha me cansado totalmente hoje, então não será uma luta hoje à noite. Espero que você tenha tido um final de semana relaxante e divertido.

Top - Vintage | Jeans - Rolla’s

I hope you all had a lovely weekend! I had a really nice weekend with Ceci and Bruno, and one of Ceci’s childhood friends Leah. We went on a tour of Sierra Nevada Brewery and then ate dinner at the newly remodeled restaurant. Afterwards we had a little hot tub hang back at Ceci’s place. I ended up sleeping over and we all went on a blustery hike in the morning. Right now I am at a Mexican restaurant I worked at right after college. I just had a delicious fish taco and got to catch up with the handful of servers and cooks I know who still work here! It is raining quite a bit today and my mom kindly let me use the car to run some errands. I’ll go put some gas in the car and return it to her in a minute. My mom signed me up on her gym membership this week, which has been so nice. It is so nice to feel strong! And I want to start taking advantage of the steam room. The gyms I went to in Long Beach and Rio didn’t have saunas, pools, hot tubs or steam rooms so this is quite a luxury. I overheat so quickly though so I always bring cold water to sip on (or splash on myself haha). It really helps! Tonight there is a West African class downtown though so I’ll probably go to that instead of the gym today. It’s always nice to have active indoor activities on cold and soggy days!

Espero que todos tenham tido um fim de semana adorável! Eu tive um final de semana muito legal com Ceci e Bruno, e uma das amigas de infância de Ceci, Leah. Nós fomos em uma excursão de Sierra Nevada Brewery e então jantamos no restaurante recentemente remodelado. Depois tivemos uma pequena banheira de hidromassagem no lugar de Ceci. Acabei dormindo e todos nós fomos em uma caminhada tempestuosa pela manhã. Agora estou em um restaurante mexicano em que trabalhei logo depois da faculdade. Acabei de ter um delicioso taco de peixe e tem de apanhar com o punhado de servidores e cozinheiros sei que ainda trabalham aqui! Está chovendo bastante hoje e minha mãe gentilmente me deixou usar o carro hoje para executar alguns recados. Vou colocar gasolina no carro e devolver para ela em um minuto. Minha mãe me inscreveu em sua academia esta semana, o que tem sido muito legal. É tão bom sentir-se forte! E quero começar a aproveitar a sauna a vapor. As academias que frequentei em Long Beach e no Rio não tinham saunas, piscinas, banheiras de hidromassagem ou saunas a vapor, então é um luxo e tanto. Eu superaqueci muito rápido, então eu sempre trago água fria para beber (ou espirrar em mim haha). Isso realmente ajuda! Hoje à noite há um centro de classe da África Ocidental, então eu provavelmente vou a isso em vez da academia hoje. É sempre bom ter atividades internas ativas em dias frios e encharcad

Happy Saturday! I am currently in front of the fireplace after a morning spent out and about. I headed to the farmer’s market to get a bag of mandarins (they’re in-season!) and some turnips so my mom can make borsch (a beet-based Russian stew that is so yummy and healthy and I always crave it when it’s cold). The mandarins at the market weren’t looking great but I did find turnips. I ran into a friend who told me about a little roadside stand that sells mandarins across town to I went there instead. I definitely miss some of those tropical Brazilian fruits, but berries and citrus from California are also some of my favorites. I drove up the canyon to get a bit of an aerial view of Chico and snapped these photos. I tore a whole in the leg of my Rollas jeans while hopping the barbed wire fence, but that’s what I get for trespassing haha. My mamma will help me patch them. Thank God for mammas. After my little excursion into nature I went to buy some pjs from Forever21. I have been sleeping in my gym leggings for years now and I figured it was about time to get some clothes just for sleeping. I got a very cute matching sweatsuit with pastel dinos all over it and a cute pink drawstring. I’ll be nice and cozy until the spring sun decides to grace us with her presence … hopefully soon!!! 

Feliz sábado! Atualmente estou em frente à lareira depois de uma manhã passada. Eu fui ao mercado do fazendeiro para comprar um saco de mandarins (eles estão na estação!) E alguns nabos para que minha mãe pudesse fazer borsch (um ensopado russo à base de beterraba que é tão gostoso e saudável e eu sempre anseio quando é frio). Os mandarins no mercado não estavam ótimos, mas eu encontrei nabos. Eu encontrei um amigo que me contou sobre um pequeno estande de beira de estrada que vende mandarins pela cidade e fui para lá. Eu definitivamente sinto falta de algumas dessas frutas tropicais brasileiras, mas frutas e frutas cítricas da Califórnia também são algumas das minhas favoritas. Eu dirigi até o canyon para ter uma visão aérea de Chico e tirei essas fotos. Eu rasguei um pedaço inteiro da minha calça jeans Rollas enquanto pulava a cerca de arame farpado, mas é isso que eu recebo por invadir haha. Minha mãe vai me ajudar a consertá-los. Graças a Deus pelas mammas. Depois da minha pequena excursão à natureza, fui comprar alguns pjs da Forever21. Eu tenho dormido em minhas leggings de ginástica há anos e percebi que era hora de pegar algumas roupas só para dormir. Eu tenho um moletom muito bonito combinando com dinos pastel por toda parte e um cordão rosa bonito. Eu serei agradável e aconchegante até que o sol da primavera decida nos agraciar com sua presença ... esperançosamente em breve!!!

Búzios Beaches

Okay, last post from Búzios :). These are all iPhone photos from my trip. In order to really do this trip justice I needed to have blogged while I was there, but then it wouldn’t have been such a retreat. This trip allowed me to say my goodbyes to Brazil in a slow and heartfelt way, a way I felt incapable of creating in the bustle and heat of Rio. I didn’t let myself get too sad about the impending departure, I just appreciated where I was. The last photo of the little dog on the beach was a very special moment for me. It was my last morning there and I walked to the beach to watch the sunrise. This little stray dog sat down a fair distance away from me and just casually stared at me. He didn’t seem to be begging, just showing interest. I was turned away from him, watching the colors shifting in the sky, and suddenly he was right next to me. He startled me, and I startled him. But when I had confirmed that he was harmless I let him cuddle next to me for a bit. He would occasionally get up and greet a person on their morning walk and they would pet him generously and give me a friendly grin, assuming he was mine. I wondered if he was normally treated with so much affection, and guessed: probably not. We borrowed each other for the morning. And it didn’t stop there; he walked me all the way home, a good mile or so. I kept expecting him to turn around and at one point I tried to make him, feeling guilty that I didn’t have anything to offer him for his kind service. But he insisted on accompanying me, the guardian angel that he was. I feel like he was a good omen. In fact, I know he was. It was sweet beyond words, the whole thing, and a perfect last morning in one of my favorite places on this planet.

Para realmente fazer essa viagem justa, eu precisava ter um blog enquanto estava lá, mas a viagem não teria sido um retiro. Essa viagem me permitiu despedir-me do Brasil de maneira lenta e sincera, uma maneira que me senti incapaz de criar na agitação e no calor do Rio. Eu não me deixei ficar muito triste com a partida iminente, eu apenas apreciei onde eu estava. A última foto do cachorrinho na praia foi um momento muito especial para mim. Foi a minha última manhã lá e eu andei até a praia para ver o nascer do sol. Este pequeno cão vadio sentou-se a uma distância razoável de mim e apenas casualmente me encarou. Ele não parecia estar implorando, só mostrando interesse. Eu estava virada para longe dele observando as cores mudando no céu e de repente ele estava ao meu lado. Ele me assustou e eu o assustei. Mas quando eu confirmei que ele era inofensivo, deixei-o afagar um pouco ao meu lado. Ele ocasionalmente se levantava e cumprimentava uma pessoa em seu passeio matinal e eles o acariciavam generosamente e me davam um sorriso amigável, assumindo que ele era meu. Eu me perguntei se ele normalmente era tratado com tanto carinho, e provavelmente não achava. Nós nos emprestamos um ao outro pela manhã. E não parou por aí. Ele andou comigo todo o caminho para casa, uma boa milha ou mais. Fiquei esperando que ele se virasse e, em certo momento, tentei fazê-lo, sentindo-me culpado por não ter nada a oferecer a ele pelo serviço gentil. Mas ele insistiu em me acompanhar, o anjo da guarda que ele era. Eu sinto que ele era um bom presságio. Na verdade, eu sei que ele era. Foi doce além das palavras, a coisa toda, e uma perfeita manhã passada em um dos meus lugares favoritos neste planeta.

First Light

Good morning babes! I am finally starting to get back onto California time. The last couple days I have woken up at five o’clock in the morning - which is 11 o’clock Rio time haha. I think I will try and take a nap today so I get tired later and hopefully wake up a bit later too. I had a great day yesterday. I finally got a new phone number. It’s been months since I have had cell service on my iPhone and it feels like such a luxury now. In Rio I was using a cheap Samsung phone so it would be less likely to get stolen. After sorting that out I headed to my favorite thrift store. I got a black blazer, a satin Chinese-inspired dress, and a shimmery green top that I will need to get taken in a bit in the waist. Right as I was leaving, Ceci texted me and asked if I would like to take a walk during her lunch break so we took a short stroll in the park. Even with the 30 spf in my makeup I got a slight sunburn on my face haha. Who would have thought I’d get more of a sunburn in winter here than in summer in Brazil?! I guess the difference in altitude really does make a difference. I took the bus home and then headed to dance class. I taught my very first class! It was amazing to get to share some of what I’ve learned and everyone was so supportive and grateful so that made it even better. After class my mom and I got Mexican food for dinner.I finally got a burrito! 

Bom dia babes! Finalmente estou começando a voltar para a Califórnia. Nos últimos dois dias eu acordei às cinco horas da manhã - o que é 11 horas no Rio haha. Acho que vou tentar tirar um cochilo hoje, então me canso mais tarde e espero acordar um pouco mais tarde também. Eu tive um ótimo dia ontem. Eu finalmente consegui um novo número de telefone. Já faz meses desde que eu tive serviço de celular no meu iPhone e parece um luxo agora. No Rio, eu estava usando um telefone Samsung barato, então seria menos provável que ele fosse roubado. Depois de resolver isso, fui para o meu brechó favorito. Eu tenho um blazer preto, um vestido de cetim inspirado em chinês, e um top verde brilhante que eu vou precisar pegar um pouco na cintura. Assim que eu estava saindo, Ceci me mandou uma mensagem e perguntou se eu gostaria de dar um passeio durante a sua pausa para o almoço, então fizemos um curto passeio no parque. Mesmo com os 30 spf na minha maquiagem eu tenho uma leve queimadura no meu rosto haha. Quem teria pensado que eu sofreria mais queimaduras de sol no inverno aqui do que no verão no Brasil ?! Eu acho que a diferença de altitude realmente faz a diferença. Peguei o ônibus para casa e depois fui para a aula de dança. Eu ensinei minha primeira aula! Foi incrível compartilhar um pouco do que aprendi e todos me apoiaram e agradeceram, o que tornou tudo ainda melhor. Depois da aula, minha mãe e eu pegamos comida mexicana para o jantar. Finalmente consegui um burrito!

Pousada

Good morning from California! These photos are from last week at the little pousada I stayed at in Búzios. I actually decided to stay an extra day there because it was so lovely. I’m currently sipping on tea and visiting with my friends Max and Jenelle in their brand new home in Sacramento. Jenelle was sweet enough to come get me from the airport in San Francisco and I am going to spend the day here and then head to Chico tonight. Have a lovely Saturday! 

Bom dia da Califórnia! Essas fotos são da semana passada na pequena pousada em que fiquei em Búzios. Eu realmente decidi ficar um dia extra lá porque era tão adorável. Atualmente estou tomando chá e visitando meus amigos Max e Jenelle em sua nova casa em Sacramento. Jenelle foi doce o suficiente para vir me buscar no aeroporto de San Francisco e eu vou passar o dia aqui e depois ir para Chico hoje à noite. Tenha um lindo sábado!

Garden Grow

Hey hey. These photos were taken before I went to dance class yesterday. By the time I got out of class a huge storm had begun. About halfway through my bus-ride it was pouring so hard that I couldn’t see clearly out the windows and water started to leak from the emergency hatch in the roof. I ran to the grocery store and then came home, completely soaked. I took a long hot shower and then was going to start cooking when all the power went out. I ended up spending the evening listening to podcasts … it was the only thing I could think to do without any internet or light! It reminded me of evenings with my grandma when she would stretch on a beach towel in the living room and listen to the radio. On my way to the gym this morning I noticed a few capsized trees and then I saw on the news that five people died in Rio yesterday due to extreme flooding in some parts of the city.  So much of Rio isn’t built to withstand common tropical storms and it’s so sad when people pay the price. I am getting out of town for the weekend tomorrow. I’m staying at an Airbnb in a little beach town close to Rio. I thought it would be nice to have some time to myself away from the city to reflect on this trip and just enjoy the last bits of Brazil, until next time. 

Ei ei. Essas fotos foram tiradas antes de eu ir para a aula de dança ontem. Quando saí da aula, uma tempestade enorme começou. Mais ou menos na metade do meu trajeto de ônibus estava derramando tanto que não consegui enxergar com clareza as janelas e a água começou a vazar da escotilha de emergência do teto. Corri até a mercearia e depois voltei para casa completamente encharcado. Tomei um longo banho quente e depois comecei a cozinhar quando a energia acabou. Acabei passando a noite ouvindo podcasts ... era a única coisa que eu conseguia pensar sem internet ou luz! Isso me lembrou de noites com minha avó quando ela iria esticar em uma toalha de praia na sala de estar e ouvir o rádio. No meu caminho para a academia esta manhã eu notei algumas árvores emborcadas e então vi no noticiário que cinco pessoas morreram no Rio ontem devido a inundações extremas em algumas partes da cidade. Muito do Rio não é construído para resistir a tempestades tropicais comuns e é muito triste quando as pessoas pagam o preço. Estou saindo da cidade para o fim de semana de amanhã. Estou hospedado em um Airbnb em uma pequena cidade de praia perto do Rio. Eu achei que seria legal ter um tempo longe da cidade para refletir sobre essa viagem e aproveitar os últimos momentos do Brasil, até a próxima.
